When families are going through separation or change, maintaining safe and meaningful contact between children and parents can be incredibly important. Child contact centres offer different types of arrangements to suit each family’s individual circumstances.
Two commonly used approaches are supervised contact and supported contact.
Supervised contact involves a trained member of staff being present throughout the session. Their role is to observe interactions and ensure the visit remains safe and focused on the child’s wellbeing. This type of contact may be recommended by courts or local authorities where additional reassurance or safeguarding is needed.
Supported contact, on the other hand, provides a safe and neutral setting where families can spend time together more independently. Staff remain nearby to offer guidance and assistance if required, helping to create a calm and positive atmosphere.
Both arrangements aim to reduce stress and conflict while enabling children to maintain important relationships. Over time, as confidence grows and circumstances change, contact arrangements may evolve to better reflect the needs of the child and family.
At Foundations Kent, each family is treated with understanding and care, recognising that no two situations are the same.
